FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Galicia Walking Festival is the hiker’s celebration that will be held from May 4th to Jun 1st of 2024 in Galicia (Spain). Guided by a team of local people, we have created 4 hiking programs for a full week in 4 different destinations, to which we add complementary activities so you can enjoy this wonderful land like never before.

Walking trails, gastronomy, handicraft, cultural visits, local festivals, regional music … Each program focused on a region to savor Galicia in a comfortable way, without haste and as authentic as possible.

One program is each of the 4 weeks in which the festival is divided.

Each program is independent and indivisible, being mandatory to participate all week, from Saturday to Saturday.

Each program is focused on a region, thus absorbing with tranquility everything it can offer us, enjoying its landscapes and, above all, living with its people.

This year 2025 the program calendar is as follows:

  • May 03-10: O Courel
  • May 10-17: Ribeira Sacra
  • May 17-24: Rías Baixas
  • May 24-31: Camiño dos Faros

Each program has its level of difficulty, which is clearly reflected on the web with kilometers, slopes, profiles, images and all the necessary data. It is the participant’s responsibility to know their limitations.

The weekly planning that appears in each program is an approximate planning and will not be final until the day of the presentation of the program. It can be modified by meteorological causes or any other cause.

In each program we will walk a total of 6 stages.

Depending on the program, the duration of the stages will be between 4 and 8 hours.

A standard day planning would be as follows
08:00 Breakfast
09:00 Bus

Good hiking boots (high or medium) waterproof are essential. The organization reserves the right not to let walkers with sneakers or similar participate.

LONG & SHORT PANTS
In many sections of the route, the path runs through a lot of vegetation. We recommend long pants and have the short in the backpack in case there is occasion to put it. In May a detachable pants is a good option. We will inform you before each stage of the best options

WATER
We recommend always carrying 1.5 liters of water. The main sources of water recommended by the organization will be indicated on the stage maps. Do not drink water from other springs.

It is essential to carry a mobile phone with 100% battery (extra external battery recommended). In it you should also carry the stage track.

ANIMALS
We are animal lovers but this time we are obliged to prohibit their participation.

HEALTH
In the event that you have any type of ailment that generates any inconvenience to participate in the Galicia Walking Festival, please notify the organization. Remember that the routes will pass through remote areas of the towns and therefore there will be no immediate medical assistance.

The protocol followed by the organization at each stage ensures that the march is carried out with maximum environmental respect, previously analyzing the sensitive points if any and taking the necessary measures to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible.

  • Respect the marked path and do not make parallel paths.
  • Leave absolutely nothing on the path (or organic waste). Insert it in the backpack and wait to deposit it in a container.
  • Do not disturb the animals in your environment, enjoy your contemplation with the utmost discretion

We have designed each of the programs seeking maximum respect for the local community, its customs and its history.

We want this festival also to help settle population in a rural Galicia that needs it a lot. Because walking in the countryside is to protect it.
